sneak peek | Hermitage Refresh
I was lucky enough to connect with this couple at a time when I was just getting started and I didn’t have much to show to convince them I knew what I was doing. They put their trust in me and have been so much fun to work with - I’m so excited to share the progress of their home refresh.
The real challenge for them was to really hone in on their style - I think they had a bit of an Insta-overload and the idea of pulling off something that they loved was incredibly overwhelming. We talked about what they liked and didn’t about their home and how we could easily turn it into a space they loved.
They have a two-story single family home in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago. The first floor is your standard open living / dining / kitchen combo and the second floor housed all of the bedrooms. They had this great staircase that wrapped up to the second floor with an awesome glass block window and skylight filling it with natural light. The top of the stairs opened onto a small hallway that led to three bedrooms and a bathroom.
Before Photos
We really wanted to define the different spaces on the 1st floor and we did that, visually, with some creative uses of paint. Originally, the clients didn’t think they wanted to redo the backsplash in their kitchen (which they hated) but once we started designing the dining and living rooms, they felt like they had to! And we added some color and created some drama up the stairs into the second floor hallway with a really beautiful, saturated teal color and some new wall sconces
